THEATRE ARTS 1 is an introductory performance class designed for students who are interested in learning about all areas of theatre with an emphasis on performance. Students will study acting concepts, improvisation, character interpretation, and staging. Students will also study technical elements including costuming, props, criticism, publicity, lighting design, and playwriting.
No prerequisite. Students of any grade interested in any area of Theatre will find this to be a perfect entry point.
THEATRE ARTS 2 is an in-depth study of intermediate acting techniques begun in Theatre Arts 1. Students will work on a variety of classical and contemporary monologues and scenes. This is a participatory class that generates in-class performance pieces with the privilege of performing their own Black Box Show as part of Grand Oaks Theatre's regular season. Specialty elements such as directing and playwriting will be explored through hands-on opportunities.
Prerequisite: Theatre Arts 1
THEATRE ARTS 3 and THEATRE ARTS 4 provide an in-depth study of advanced acting techniques begun in Theatre Arts 1 and 2. Students will work on a variety of monologues, scenes, short plays. This is a participatory class that generates in-class performance pieces with the possibility of producing shows as part of Grand Oaks Theatre's regular season. Specialty elements such as directing musical theatre, film literacy and tap dance will be explored through hands-on opportunities. Students in Theatre Arts 3 and 4 may be required to purchase & provide their own tap shoes before Tap Unit begins. Theatre Arts 4 students dive even deeper into the field of directing.

DIRECTING SEMINAR is a custom, full-year class for an individual aspiring to learn more about directing for the stage. The student must produce work to be seen by the public each semester, included in the Fall Theatre 2 Black Box Show and the Spring Class Showcase Unit.
Prerequisite: At least two Theatre class and admitted only by Director
PRODUCTION THEATRE is a class designed for the advanced theatre student who is involved in all of the major productions in the department. This will be a workshop atmosphere that will include production meetings, work on the shows, and plans for other co-curricular theatre activities. Leadership training, management, and individual development, research, and projects are stressed. Production participation (including after school production work) is required of all Theatre Production students. Project assignments vary by production and will be assigned in class.
Prerequisite: At least one Theatre class and open auditions in April of each Spring
TECH THEATRE 1 is a participatory class designed for students interested in learning about all areas of theatre with an emphasis on technical theatre. Students will learn and practice scenic design and stagecraft, properties, lighting, costumes, makeup, and sound. This is a hands-on class where students will be applying the skills they learn to create production elements for GOHS shows.
No prerequisite. Students of any grade interested in Tech will find this to be a perfect entry point.
TECH THEATRE 2 and TECH THEATRE 3 provide a hands-on workshop atmosphere for students to have the opportunity to learn various aspects of technical production by designing and building for shows. Students will work in scenic design & construction, lighting, costumes, properties, sound, publicity, makeup design, and stage management. Advanced students will have the opportunity to take on roles of leadership in the roles of crew heads, student designers, and running crews for the GOHS production schedule.
